Mohammad Tariqul Islam, the worthy Superintendent of Police of Naogaon district. He wrote a poem about the Chhota Jamuna River that flows through Naogaon city and posted it on social media.
(January 30, 2026) This article was published on Friday morning from the verified Facebook ID of the district police.
In the post, the Superintendent of Police said that spending some time on the banks of the river after a busy week relieves his mental fatigue. When he went to the banks of the Chhota Jamuna in the morning, he witnessed people who came to fish and the river-centered life. While highlighting that experience, he reviewed some famous poems about the river in world literature.
In the post, he mentioned the poems The Brook by Alfred Lord Tennyson, To the River Charles by Henry Wordsworth Longfellow, The Negro Speaks of Rivers by Langston Hughes, and On the Pulse of Morning by Maya Angelou. He also briefly wrote about how rivers are presented as symbols of life, time, history, and the soul in these poems.
In this context, he wrote a poem titled ‘Chhota Jamuna’.
Chhota Jamuna, that quiet river flows around the city of Naogaon, its name Chhota Jamuna, mixed with the mouth of people.
Sitting on the bank, its gentle breeze, its hot soul, the sound of the waves still sounds – what an old song.
All the memories of the city are accumulated, in that stream of yours, people walk in the morning and evening, on the way to your banks. Today, the river has been lost, but you are still yours, in the hearts of the people of Naogaon, your eternal seat.
Earlier, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tariqul Islam had also written several environmentally friendly posts calling for creating awareness to protect the Chhota Jamuna River. In his writings, the importance of human responsibility and emotion in conserving the river has been emphasized.
