In Maker Para village of Ward No. 9 of Gazipur Union No. 2 of Sreepur Upazila, Gazipur, there have been allegations of widespread irregularities and corruption in government road work. Kamrun Nahar Sayeed and her husband Md. Abu Sayeed, a reserved female UP member of Ward No. 7, 8 and 9, have made such allegations.
When asked about the use of low-quality bricks ignoring the project rules and doing road work without an ‘agent’ (security wall), UP member Kamrun Nahar Sayeed and her husband Md. Abu Sayeed, who are in charge of that road, abused the journalists in foul language.
It has been learned on the spot that bricklaying work is currently underway on a rural road in Maker Para area, and very low-quality and nominal bricks are being used instead of working according to the government schedule.
The biggest irregularity was seen in the absence of brick protection walls or agents on both sides of the road. Locals fear that due to the absence of agents, the road will collapse with a little rain or traffic.
(January 3, 2026) On Saturday afternoon, when journalists went to the area to collect information, they asked about this faulty work on the road. UP female member Kamrun Nahar Saeed angrily told the journalists.
There is no need to provide agents on both sides of the road for brick paving. When the journalists questioned the correct rules of the project, she and her husband Md. Abu Saeed, who was with her, became agitated. At one stage, they started abusing all the journalists present in foul language and quickly left the scene without answering any of the journalists’ questions, after this incident.
(January 4, 2026) On Sunday, despite repeated attempts to contact the accused female UP member Kamrun Nahar Saeed on her mobile phone, she did not answer the call. As a result, no official statement could be obtained from her in this regard.
Meanwhile, the locals have alleged that the member and her husband are working in a syndicate to embezzle a large part of the government allocation. They have been accused of such arbitrariness in various development projects before.
There is intense anger among local news workers over such ugly language and behavior towards journalists by a public representative.
The residents of Maker Para have demanded an immediate stop to this low-quality work and construction of the road with the correct quality bricks and rules as per the government estimate, and have sought urgent intervention from the upazila administration.
